BOSTON'S BEST PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR RUNNERS

Navigating running injuries can be SO frustrating!

You try going to physical therapy, but you just don't get the sense that your PT understands running.

Maybe they told you to stop running in the middle of a marathon build without a clear explanation why or a clear plan to get you back to running in time to race.

Maybe they had you do the same easy exercises for weeks on end without any progression.

Maybe you made a little progress, but you just never quite got back to running your best.

This is the story of most of the runners who work with me at Alterra. If you're living the same story, you're in the right place!

Hi! I'm Jordan,
the founder of Alterra

Running and working with runners is my great passion and privilege!

I created Alterra to change the standard of care for runners by becoming an expert in the injury to performance spectrum for distance runners. I have been a physical therapist for over 8 years, and have been coaching runners for the last two.

At Alterra, runners can expect highly specialized care from a running expert who cares deeply about their growth both as a runner and as a person.

My mission is to be a trusted guide to runners navigating injuries so that they can achieve their full potential and reclaim a happy and healthy relationship with running.

TESTIMONIALS

Jordan is one of the best physical therapists I’ve had the pleasure of working with! He’s incredibly knowledgeable about his craft, and I admire his willingness to continue learning and growing. I also appreciate him going the extra mile by checking in on how my recovery is going even outside of scheduled appointments. I’d recommend Alterra to anyone nursing a recent injury or athletes looking to stay accountable and healthy!

HOW WE HELP RUNNERS SUCCEED

Running Injury Rehab

Most runners that come through Alterra's doors have already tried the obvious stuff, but they're still stuck.

Runners get results with us because we know how to find root causes, build comprehensive rehab programs, and provide them clarity.

Every follow up session is 1:1 for 60 minutes, and our premier runner evaluation is a full 90 minutes to give us enough time to fully understand your running ecosystem.

Running injuries we treat: â€‹

Running Gait Analysis

Running gait analysis is an incredibly powerful tool that we use to understand why injuries happen and how we can improve your running performance.

We use a combination of cutting edge technology and years of experience to give you the tools you need to optimize your running form.

Questions we can answer with running gait analysis:

  • How your running shoes effect your gait.

  • Why you're only getting pain 40 minutes into your run.

  • How your form changes as you run faster.

  • Which parts of your body you are subconsciously protecting.

  • What specific things you should work on to improve your running efficiency.

Marathon & Race Preparation

If you've ever wished your PT just understood running a little better, you're in the right place.

Honestly, same.

To really understand running injuries, you need to know how runners train. What a hard week looks like. What happens to the body three weeks out from a race.

That's not something you learn in PT school.

It's something Jordan went and learned separately under two highly respected running coaches, and working with runners from first-timers to Boston qualifiers along the way.

The result is that when you come in with a running problem, you get someone who can actually talk training with you, not just hand you a sheet of exercises and tell you to rest.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT ALTERRA

One-On-One
Appointments

Every session is 60 minutes, just you and your therapist. No double-booking, no handoffs to an aide, no 15 minutes of actual PT followed by 45 minutes on a stationary bike. If you're here, you have our full attention for the whole hour.

That attention doesn't stop when you walk out the door. Got a question on Sunday about whether you should run through some soreness? Text your therapist. Most of our patients have our number and actually use it, because getting a quick answer when something comes up is a lot better than waiting until your next appointment to find out you made it worse.

Comprehensive Treatment Plans

A lot of runners leave PT appointments without clarity on what they should be doing outside of their sessions.

We don't let that happen here at Alterra.

You'll know each week what is expected of you with specific assigned runs, strength training, and PT exercises. We also work out guardrails together, so if something starts feeling off between sessions, you know how to adjust on the fly rather than just white-knuckling it until your next appointment.

Pricing Transparency

Alterra is an out-of-network, cash-pay practice. That means we don't bill insurance directly — but it also means you get a full 60 minutes, one on one, every single visit. No double-booking, no aides, no rushed appointments.

Most of our patients work with us without using their insurance because they get higher quality care from someone who specializes in treating runners. If you value that too, you're in the right place!
