SWEAT TESTING IN BOSTON

Figure out why you keep cramping on long runs. And how to stop it.

Still cramping on long runs even when you take electrolytes? Sweat testing tells you exactly how much fluid and sodium your body loses when you run, so you can stop cramping at mile 20 and start finishing the way you trained to.

Most runners are hydrating
blind

Here's the thing that runners need to know: sweat is personal.

Two runners can stand on the same start line, run the same pace in the same weather, and lose completely different amounts of fluid and salt.

One finishes fine on a single bottle. The other is cramping, lightheaded, and wondering what went wrong.

I've seen so many runners personalize everything: their training program, shoe selection, fueling sources...except this one factor that can make or break their race: Hydration

GUESSING HAS A PRICE

YOU'VE PROBABLY PAID IT

When your hydration is off, your legs aren't the first thing to quit. Your system is. You've felt at least one of these:

  • The wheels coming off in the last 10K, even though your training said you were ready

  • Calves or hamstrings seizing up with the finish line in sight

  • A gut that shuts down and refuses anything you try to take in

  • A pounding headache and wrecked sleep the night after a hot race

  • Recovery that drags for days, so your next block starts flat

Running a goal race without knowing your sweat rate is like driving across the country with a piece of tape over the fuel gauge.

You can do it.

You just won't know you're empty until you're stranded on the side of the road.

A sweat test reads exactly what your body loses when you run.

Sweat testing measures what you actually lose when you run: how much fluid leaves your body per hour, and how much sodium goes with it. No more averages. No more borrowed advice. Just your numbers.

At Alterra, we use the Flowbio sensor, the most accurate sweat sensor on the market and the only one independently validated in a peer-reviewed study. It reads your sweat in real time while you run, indoors or out, and feeds the data straight into a hydration plan we build with you.

The honest part most gadget companies won't tell you: the sensor is only as useful as the person reading it. A number on a screen doesn't win you a race. A plan does. That's where we come in.

HOW IT WORKS

01

Run Your Test

You run or bike while wearing the sensor in our office for about 45 minutes. We capture your real sweat rate and sodium loss as it happens.

02

Review your Results

After your test, we sit down together to review your results to see how much sweat and sodium you are actually losing, and how much you should be replenishing during a run.

03

Leave with a Plan

You get a specific, race-ready hydration and fueling strategy: how much to drink, how much sodium to take, and when. Built for your body, your goal, and the conditions you'll face.

What's included in the sweat test

  • A guided sweat test using lab-validated Flowbio technology, run in conditions built to match your goal race

  • A one-on-one results breakdown with Dr. Jordan Metcalf, DPT, so you actually understand your numbers

  • Your personalized race-day hydration plan: exact fluid and sodium targets, timed to your effort

  • A training-day fueling strategy so your hard sessions and long runs stop leaving you flat

"Jordan is fantastic. He clearly cares a lot about the work he does and the athletes he works with. He provided incredibly meaningful feedback and clear running tips to work on. I've already seen improvements from applying what he suggested. I would 10/10 recommend Jordan to any runners looking to improve their performance and stay healthy."
