What is performance physical therapy?

 

Performance physical therapy is focused on solving the problems that are keeping you from achieving your health and fitness goals, no matter how ambitious. The traditional model cares about what is "medically necessary." We focus on the activities that are necessary to YOU. Whether you're running the Boston Marathon, training for the crossfit games, or trying to get back to sports after a prolonged injury, we are here to fill the gap between rehab and performance. We are poised and ready to help you nix that nagging soreness, ditch that debilitating injury, and crush your current fitness goals with thorough and hands on, and functional physical therapy. We are trained in a variety of techniques to assist you such as:

  • Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM)

  • Cupping

  • Dry needling

  • Blood flow restriction training (BFRt)

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

  • Soft tissue mobilization

  • Trigger point release

  • Functional movement assessment

 

At Alterra, we treat the whole movement system, not just the injured area. After we decide to work together, we will schedule your Global Movement Evaluation, where we will evaluate your mobility, strength, and stability, and determine what factors are limiting you from reaching your full movement potential.

HOW IT WORKS

RESET

Everyone has a story, we want to hear yours. With an initial evaluation, your physical therapist will pinpoint the root cause of your problem, and recommend a plan to reset that area of your body to reduce pain and improve mobility and control. 

REINFORCE

Next, you will work with your therapist to reinforce the changes that we are trying to make in your body. You will be supported AND challenged by your therapist so that your body can handle even your toughest movement goals. Along the way, you will be taught how to reinforce these movement changes on your own to keep you on track between sessions.

RELOAD

Once you are feeling better and moving better, we will work on staying better. This is what sets us apart from traditional physical therapy. We want to guide you all the way to the finish line by working on resilience through a progressive loading program to help you keep what you've gained. We will be your biggest fan when you achieve your movement goals, big or small!
